When in PowerChart, the patient search tool is available at the top right hand corner of your screen regardless of what screen you are on.
IMPORTANT: In accordance with your signed patient confidentiality agreement, you will only access patient records for which you are providing direct patient care. |
Upon your first login, your patient search bar will be set to search by Name. You will change this default to MRN.
NOTE: To ensure you find the correct patient chart, it is good practice to search for your patient by their MRN number. Many patients have similar names. |
Click on the drop-down symbol and select MRN.
NOTE: You can change your patient search box at any time back to search by Name and FIN if appropriate by clicking the drop-down symbol to the right of the patient search bar. |
Ensure your cursor is in the patient search field and enter your patient’s MRN.
Press the Enter key on your keyboard or click the magnifying glass icon to the right of the patient search box.
The Encounter Search screen may appear.
NOTE: In previous legacy clinical information systems, an encounter is also known as a visit. |
NOTE: The Encounter Search screen will not appear for patients who only have 1 existing encounter. The patient chart will open immediately after searching their MRN. |
IMPORTANT: Verify the correct patient is selected by using other patient identifiers such as Name, Date of Birth, PHN, etc. |
Select the correct encounter and click the OK button.
You may also double-click on the correct encounter to open the patient’s chart.
IMPORTANT: It is imperative that the correct encounter is selected. |
The patient chart will open.
