It is often required to change printer location for a prescription. On Discharge Med Rec, the printer location can be changed by clicking on the medication, then change the Send To field:

It is important to take the following measures to ensure that prescriptions print at the right place.
When physician changes printers, subsequent prescriptions default to new printer location for duration of their PowerChart session. Previous prescriptions are still routed to initial printer, and must be manually changed to new printer location.
In the example below, the physician's default printer is Printer A. While prescribing metFORMIN, the physician decides to change the printer to Printer B. The next prescription (pantoprazole) will also be routed to Printer B.
In the above example, the physician MUST manually change printer selection for clopidogrel to Printer B, to match the printer selection for metFORMIN and pantoprazole.

IMPORTANT: Review all prescriptions to ensure they print at the correct printer. |
When Pharmacist changes printers, subsequent prescriptions default to the user's default printer. Pharmacist must manually change printer for each prescription. If the pharmacist wants to change printers for subsequent prescriptions, must manually change printer for each prescription.
In the example below, the pharmacist's default printer is also Printer A. While prescribing metFORMIN, the pharmacist decides to change the printer to Printer B. The next prescription (pantoprazole) will still be routed to the pharmacist's default printer, which is Printer A.
In the above example, the pharmacist MUST manually change printer selection for clopidogrel and pantoprazole to Printer B, to match the printer selection for metFORMIN.

|
IMPORTANT: If printer location needs to be changed, Pharmacists must change printer location for each prescription. |
The printer that pharmacist selects during Planned Discharge Med Rec will carry over when physician signs Discharge Med Rec.
In the example below, the pharmacist has changed the printer location to Printer C while planning Discharge Med Rec. If the physician signs the Discharge Med Rec without further modifications, the prescriptions will print to Printer C.
However, if physician makes changes or additions to Discharge Med Rec, new prescriptions will default to the physician's default printer. The physician MUST then check printer selection to ensure all prescriptions print at the same printer.
|
|
NOTE: There may be more than one printer in each ward. Pharmacists and physicians must collaborate to ensure that prescriptions print at the same printer. |
In the example below, the physician decides to add a Multivitamin prescription to the Discharge Med Rec. This Multivitamin prescription will be routed to the physician's default printer, which is now Printer B.
The physician must decide whether to change the printer for all prescriptions to Printer B or Printer C. In this example, the physician changes the printer to Printer C:

IMPORTANT: When planning Discharge Medication Reconciliation, pharmacists MUST select appropriate printer for each medication. When signing Discharge Medication Reconciliation, physicians MUST ensure each medication prints at appropriate printer. |
When logged in on a Green computer, default printer will be the user's default printer. Change Windows settings to change default printer settings.
When logged in on a Blue computer, default printer will be the closest local printer.
|
|
IMPORTANT: Default printer depends on whether the user is logged in on a Green or Blue computers. |
When Medication Reconciliation is performed and ready to be signed, the following steps will allow you to print multiple prescriptions to the printer of your choice with just a few clicks.
In the Discharge Medication Reconciliation screen, on the right hand side of the screen under Orders After Reconciliation, click on one medication from the list.
Confirm the prescription details will appear at the bottom of the screen.
Locate the Send To: field and click the
button.
In the Prescription Routing screen, select the radio dot for All Pending Non-Tamperproof Prescriptions for Apply to.
Select the printer of your choice.
|
|
IMPORTANT: Any additional prescriptions added after this process will route to the user’s default printer, NOT the one that was selected in the aforementioned process. |
